Earth System Governance in Turbulent Times: Prospects for Political & Behavioural Responses #ESG2021

Living Law engage with ESG community as part of Bratislava Conference on Earth System Governance

Living Law was delighted to be amongst the presenters at the session ID202 on "Future Generations and Nature's Futures: Rights and Representation" as part of this year's 2021 Bratislava Conference on Earth System Governance.

Over the course of this week, the event brings together over 100 sessions with the largest social science network in the area of governance and global environmental change. Our contribution was titled "Responding to the inter-locking crises: updated notions of sovereignty and Rights of Nature as fundamental tools to promote respect for the integrity of the Earth-system". Building on earlier publications, Living Law's paper and presentation explored mis-notions of sovereignty as a concept of international law in the field of the environment (in light of rapidly advancing scientific understandings in the environmental sphere), as well as the role of the Rights of Nature in aligning human activity with planetary boundaries.

We look forward to hearing the many thought-provoking presentations over the course of the week and to continuing the discussions. Our full paper will be published shortly.
