In this legal update brief, Ana Cepeda, our legal intern in Environmental Rights and Governance, writes about the recent landmark ruling of the UK Supreme Court in the case of Vedanta Resources PLC and another (Appellants) v Lungowe and others (Respondents) [2019] UKSC 20.

Although a hearing on the jurisdiction of this specific case, we make some comments about the broader impacts it is already having on the field of corporate accountability for transnational corporations headquartered here in the UK. This case is just one aspect of a fast developing field in response to the increasing demands for such corporations to live up to their legal and moral responsibilities in their overseas operations.
